PSF Navi Mumbai had organized its 2nd get together on 23rd Saturday November 2019 at education and welfare center, Navi Mumbai On topic ‘Managing personal finance’

The session kicked off with a beautiful Quraan recitation and translation by Br.Imran Hashmi. Br.Ashmar Kalangottil briefed about the PSF and its various initiatives and activities across Mumbai and navi mumbai including Kafalath project

br.Furqan Qureshi briefed about various ponzy schemes, its origin and how not to fall prey to such schemes which are lucrative on the face. The session was followed by an insightful delivery on managing personal finance by Br. Hasan Wangde. Br. Wangde walked the crowd through as how to inculcate a savings culture and further enlighted about various instruments available at disposal to begin savings and how money works for an individual when all the sources of income are at rest post mid-age.

PSF Navi Mumbai chapter organised its first get-together on 3rd August, Saturday evening at Nerul, Navi mumbai. Despite heavy rains, the program was attended by total of 36 members. 

Post Tilawat and translation of the Holy Quran by Br. Imran Hashmi, brief introduction of PSF was shared by Br. Yahya. Highlighting the Objectives of PSF and journey over the last 2 years, he shared an update on the flagship Kafalat project. Sponsoring the needy students on the website www.educatechild.in was explained and urged to participate in the noble cause.

 The Guest speaker, Mr. Shabbir Ahmed, then took on the stage and mesmerized the audience for an hour. A professional himself with 17 years of experience, Br. Shabbir shared few valuable Nuggets for Growth – both in the professional sphere as well as personal domain.

The session was very interactive with use of real-life examples & anecdotes and session’s learning were summarised with 3 cheat codes: DIKW, P = P – I and A –> ABC –> ABCD

Vote of thanks was delivered by the chapter lead Br. Ashmar who also inspired the members to ponder over new ideas and avenues where they believed PSF would be able to make an impact in the young chapter. A networking session over dinner concluded the day.

The Banegar English High school auditorium, Mira Road was once again illuminated with scores of professionals from Mira Road (Thane) attending the PSF bi-monthly convention along with their families to attend Triangle of Life – A Parenting Workshop“

Program host, Brother Farhan, welcomed the audience with greetings and appreciated their presence.

Program started with recitation and translation of the book of guidance for Mankind, The Qur’an, Surah At-Tahreem Ayah# 6-7 (https://quran.com/66/6) by Br. Mazher Hassan. Br. Mazher explained aims and objective of PSF Mumbai and announces vision of splitting PSF Mumbai into 3 localise chapter namely PSF Mira Road, PSF Navi Mumbai and PSF Rest Of Mumbai

The guest speaker, Mr. Danish Aga, Co-Founder of Sky Education, Ex Vice President JP Morgan, Educationist. Motivational Speaker started his talk with an enthusiastic approach by engaging audience by asking question what audience understand with topic “Triangle of Life” . He covered zones that our children spend most of their daily time i.e. Home, School, and Play areas. It covered role of parents to prevent their children from getting lost in these zones. Also, workshop emphasized the importance of Life Skills for parents with examples and case studies which eventually could help prevent children and families from getting lost in current times! These Life Skills were based on World Health Organization (WHO) framework.

Br. Mudasir updates on the Kafalat project (www.educatechild.in), the flagship program of PSF. He urged everyone present to spread the word on the idea of sponsoring a child’s education, donating generously and supporting with Sadqat and Zakat.

Program concluded with vote of thanks by PSF Mumbai convener Mr. Naveed Anjum followed by dinner and a healthy networking session.

Professional Solidarity Forum-Mumbai joined protest against Mob Lynching.

In a massive show of solidarity, hundreds of Mumbaikars braved the torrential rains and joined the leaders and representatives of close to 30 social and political organisations to gather at the iconic Azad Maidan this afternoon to protest against the unending spree of mob Lynching being witnessed all over the country.

Professionals had also gathered in large numbers to discharge their civil responsibility. The Convenor of the Mumbai chapter of Professionals’ Solidarity Forum, Mr. Ajaz demanded that mob lynching should be declared an act of terrorism and that the accused should be tried in fast track courts under anti-terrorism laws.

The scholars school auditorium was once again illuminated with scores of professionals from various parts of the financial capital attending the PSF bi-monthly convention along with their families to listen to esteemed panelists from medical fraternity, on the very essential topic “Professional Life, Health Issues and Remedies“

Dr Nazima Waghle who is a veteran nutritionist and dietetic discussed the most common health issues among working professionals today, She said that “Today more than 90% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies and lack of physical exercise .” She made presentations on various categories of diseases prevalent and discussed at length their root cause and how can we overcome them by simply changing our diet habits and adopting healthy alternatives to processed foods etc. Some of the most common diseases she mentioned were High BP, Diabetes, Brain disease, Sleep disorders, Obesity. She gave very practical and economical diet tips to improve upon these issues.

An expert physiotherapist Dr Saeed Mohammadthen enlightened the audience with his insightful talk. He started with describing how sitting is something human beings are not made for, In fact, he said humans are moving entities who have evolved by walking. The advent of technology has brought us sitting desk jobs and have modulated every activity around sitting posture like watching tv, surfing the web to mention few. The sedentary lifestyle and inactivity are the root cause of most of the health issues faced by professionals today. Inactivity is causing major illnesses like cardiac problems, Thrombosis, Obesity, Diabetes, certain cancers and musculoskeletal issues like back and neck pain, cervical & lumbar spondylitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. In conclusion, he spoke about the prevention of all these by maintaining a healthy lifestyle… Walking more than sitting, doing ergonomic adjustments at the workplace, and exercising at least 3-4 times a week.

Dr Ruksheda Syeda famous Psychiatrist and TEDx speaker then enthralled the audience with her scintillating talk on “Mental health”. She stressed the need to identify mental health and need to differentiate between stress, distress and disorders. She presciently declared that “without mental health, there can be no true physical health, She lamented that there is very less awareness and lots of stereotype and stigma attached pertaining to mental health and people are reluctant to seek professional advice in this regard. She concluded by saying “Sleep, Food, Drink and Digestion” (Sona, Khana, Peena aur Hazma ) needs to be taken care of for stable mental health.

The house was then open for Q&A wherein came deluge of questions around the topic which elicited a much detailed response to specific issues, many misconceptions were cleared and myths debunked.

PSF Convener informed the audience about the upcoming PSF Mumbai initiatives and ongoing activities in the backdrop , a sumptuous dinner was served to the attending professionals and their accompanying family members and everyone departed with a new resolve to improve their health, and commitment to support PSF and contribute towards the cause championed by it.

As the sun slipped into the horizon last Saturday evening, the Scholars High School Auditorium at Jogeshwari came alive with scores of professionals from various parts of the financial capital attending the PSF bi-monthly convention along with their families to listen to the Veteran Journalist and Chief Editor of The Inquilab , Mr Shahid Latif, on the topic ” Media, Community Service and The Role of Professionals”.

The session commenced with the recitation of the Qur’an, after which the convener of PSF Mumbai, Mr. Aijaz Ahmad welcomed and felicitated the chief guest. Event host Mirza Kamran gave a brief introduction and highlighted various achievements of the learned speaker to the audience.

The convention was then graced by the Chief Guest,Mr Shahid Latif, the erudite speaker enlightened the audience about the media landscape. During his talk he briefly touched upon how the media has evolved over time, the compulsions created by the corporate model, TRP business and populist sentiments. He said that Social media has created a lot of pressure on the newspapers as they are now forced to cover much of the content which could be easily ignored otherwise.

He then discussed at length about even bigger problem of having Social Media wherein news and content is created without any Editor in between and the lack of strong check and balance mechanisms. Hence there is no accountability on the content that is generated and it is having a largely negative influence on the society.

He encouraged professionals to strive in their circle of influence for changing the perception created by the rampant stereotypes against the community. The professionals need to consciously create situations and grab any opportunity wherein they can prove their true credentials. He stressed the need to become a source for positive influence and dawah in their respective work spaces.

He also highlighted the importance of writing up letters/emails to the news editor in case of a biased and hate-spreading coverage of marginalized communities. He lamented upon the lethargic approach towards such initiatives .

After the session a very engaging Q&A ensued, the house dissented over the idea of discouraging the social media , to which the learned speaker responded that the widespread use of the social media should probably be discouraged unless there are mechanisms in place to regulate it and the truly educated and efficient ones should use it for constructive purpose.

After the session a brief networking and casual interaction continued over sumptuous dinner. Also many professionals came forward to volunteer for PSF upcoming projects
