With the rise of modernism and widespread fitnah, the need for Islamic parenting has become all the more critical. Sensing the scenario, PSF Mumbai organized a workshop this Sunday (26th Sept) on Parenting: Raising a Muslim Child which was conducted by Br. Abdul Mannan Ali, Entrepreneur, CEO Standard Touch and a Life Coach.
Not only was the workshop informative, but also extremely interactive and engaging. The event started with Br. Mannan asking the audience the need for Islamic parenting; the answer to which rightly is — it’s a duty Allah has entrusted the parents with, which is mentioned in the Holy Quran.
📝 Some of the key aspects covered during the 1-1/2 hour workshop included:
For building confidence & trust — embracing our kids and letting them know that they are loved
👶🏻 Importance of starting early on; being mindful of the environment and what the pregnant mother consumes of knowledge or otherwise
🧕 Being a role model for our children and minding our own actions as children emulate what we do, not what we ask them to do
🕋 Nurture their love for Allah and his messenger. Draw lessons from the Qur’an to keep them in touch with Deen
🤦♂️ Let the children realize their own mistakes. Instead of correcting them, question them and let them reflect and think of their own mistakes
🕵️♂️ Not correcting every minor mistake they make, instead correct the major ones and the minor one will fall into place
👮♂️ Frequent reprimanding may lead to losing our value before kids and may end up in opposite behaviour of what we expect
👨👩👧👦 Give young children enough time and engage with them so that when they become teenagers they will give you their time
In addition to anecdotes from Quran and Hadees, stories of prophets & learned sahaba, Coach Mannan also shared his personal life experiences:
💰 You can teach money management to your kids by trusting them with money and giving them the opportunity to learn how to use it themselves. When they start spending with responsibility, they will learn to save as well in the process
🏠 For encouraging household work, make a healthy competitive environment between the siblings.
🍔📱 Br. Mannan also answered practically the challenges pertaining to child’s screen time, healthy eating and instilling discipline.
